As we prepare for our Young Farming Champion visit by Peta Bradley and Caitlin Heppner next week, we have started to knit as part of our archie design. Using finger knitting spinners we've made multicoloured lengths of wool that will form part of our design. The boys were really good at it and enjoyed it much more than they let on!
We have started to design our archie in art with Mr Tink and Ms Wansey. We were all given the template to work on in class and at home. In a few weeks we have a guest visit from our Young Farmer Champion and we are also going to learn more about the Wool Industry in Geography, English, PDHPE and Science. Here are a few of our ideas so far: To much fanfare our archie arrive at the start of term. Mr Tink allowed us to rip apart the plastic to check it out and then we showed it to all of the Year 8 art classes who will be working on it and explained what we had to do. Mr Riley then showed it to the other staff at morning briefing and asked other teachers to get onboard in their subjects. Everyone was a bit surprised it was called a bull and had udders!
We then took 'archie' on a tour of the school. This distracted a lot of students in class as they had never seen a fibre glass bull going past their classroom windows before! The school steers were a big fan of archie! We also had a visit from our local newspaper (Orange City Life) who are going to cover our progress in their weekly magazine. |
